From July 2020 until the end of then-Prime Minister Boyko Borissov’s third term on 16 April 2021, Bulgaria was engulfed in daily demonstrations against government corruption and impunity. Following Borissov’s resignation, two inconclusive elections were held before a four-party coalition achieved a majority in November 2021. As a result, Greens are now in government in a breakthrough for the region.
