10 Years of Change: The Green European Journal is 10 years old

In 2012, the Green European Journal released its first issue, taking its first steps towards an ambitious objective: to make debates and ideas travel across borders and to work to create a genuine European public sphere.

In the decade since, Europe has witnessed profound transformations and seismic events. Social and political uprisings. The devasting effects of accelerating climate change. A wave of populism. The hijacking of democracy by authoritarian forces. A surge in awareness of how inextricable our society is from our environment and a growing public consensus around the need to protect our future.

How can we make sense of these movements and the connections between them? We have never been surrounded by so much information, yet an understanding of the deeper shifts taking place is often elusive, as we scroll through unending streams of headlines and breaking news. It’s time to pause, look around, and take stock of where we find ourselves today, and where we are headed.

This autumn, to mark 10 years of publishing, the Journal will organise a series of discussions. These will bring together voices from all corners of Europe to reflect on the significance of the developments which have unfolded, and discuss where they might lead. We will focus on what was said at the time, what we have learnt, and what remains unknown.
